The day was long, but everybody that was there seemed to have a great time shooting and socializing.

There was some fear in what the weathermen were saying about rain, but it turned out to be a nice “windy” day. Even with the wind it was a great shoot!

We appreciate Shaun Graves of Bowhunters of Utah for coming down to support our shoot and our efforts!

We experienced just about every kind of weather possible — rain, snow, wind, sleet, hail, and freezing temperatures, and more…

The birds were quiet and not very responsive, we were able to talk to this “boss tom” just enough to keep him in one spot and get close and pull him away from the group just enough to get a shot!

The tom had a 9 inch beard and 1-1/4 spurs.

Even with the big Kite Festival, golf tournaments, baseball tournaments, and other activities going on in town we had a good showing and those that showed up had a great time!

Remember our next shoot will be on May 2nd Spomsored by our local Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Chapter. They have been a great sponsor and friend to our club, this will be the 3rd year we have done this shoot with them. Hope to see you there!!

We know there were a few that were detoured or prevented from coming due to the storms and road conditions that weekend, we hope to see you next year.

Those that were there experienced a great shoot! It was a little chilly in the morning and slight breeze kept things cool as well, but i never heard anyone complain about the temperature.

We had close to 40 shooters show up and shoot and I know at least 4 of them shot their very first 3-D shoot.  Everybody loves the new Rinehart targets and there is still some 12 rings yet to be broken on some of them!!

We had 30 targets that shooters shot for both the morning and afternoon session. Some targets were moved between sessions.

We set it up as the same format as our Turkey Shoot, the targets were set in sets or clusters up to 3 targets at each station, there were some single target stations.

We used the mixed yardage format by request after the Turkey Shoot. For those not familiar with it, we mark the flag at the station with the yardage of one or more targets and leave a question mark for any targets that are not marked.

President’s Day Shoot Scores are as follows:

Note: Always make sure you turn in your score card! We had a lot of shooters leave without turning in their score cards. This will help us keep a better record of shooters and numbers at each shoot and usually each score card is entered in for prizes.

Opening morning came early for Jaxon. At 4:30 a.m. Jaxon found himself in tow behind dad and grandpa hiking into one of the back canyons where they had seen the bucks just a couple of weeks before. Shortly after first light Jaxon’s long-early hike paid off. With dad and grandpa behind the video camera and spotting scope, Jaxon was on the ground with his .243 rested over his backpack with two bucks in his scope, all Jaxon needed was for them to come out from behind a couple of aspen trees. I think dad was as nervous as Jaxon, but finally the buck came out and when it did…one shot from Jaxon’s .243 and the buck was on the ground.

His smile pretty much says it all!!!

Congrats Jaxon!!! on a great first buck and memorable experience with your dad and grandpa!!!
