Title: Membership Meeting 1/28/2012

Red Rock Bowmen 1/28/2012 Membership Meeting Minutes

20 members in attendance

Tony DiStefano introduced club officers and board members who were present.

Tony talked about attending the membership meeting of the Cedar City archery club Ats Queo which was held 1/9/2012. Tony made a suggestion at that meeting that Ats Queo and Red Rock Bowmen establish an agreement that in addition to exclusive memberships for each club that there could be a joint membership added to enable individual or family memberships to include both clubs.

Current fees for each club follow:

After a discussion it was voted (pending approval of Red Rock Bowmen) that dual membership would be set at $60-Single and $80 Family.
A vote was taken. All approved, none opposed.

Mel mentioned it is very important not to give out the gate combination to anyone who is not a current member. He pointed out that anyone shooting illegally at the range is not covered by insurance, and that the person who gave out the gate combination could be held responsible for an injury, damage, etc. Tony mentioned that 2 targets were shot with a shotgun and ruined.

Tony told about having the rubber backstops on the target butts mounted on a bar which was field welded to the supporting posts. This work was done last month. This should help make the butts more maintenance free because the backstops were continually falling down.

Mel inquired why shoots were on 3rd Saturday instead of 2nd or 4th Saturday. Mel said he and Marie would not be able to attend if shoots were on 3rd Saturday. The range is open to the public on the 2nd and 4th Saturday, so we are required to be out there anyway. The newspaper carries an announcement that the range is open to the public on the 2nd and 4th Saturday. Tony said dates were set up so they wouldn’t conflict with Ats Queo, but he would see if it would work to slide the dates to a 2nd or 4th Saturday.

At the Ats Queo membership meeting it was announced by Dustin that he is proposing a Brian Head Shoot. The fee for the shoot would be $50 for the Friday and Saturday 2 day event. The fee would include lift tickets. There would be a total of 40 targets. Dustin proposed a deal with Red Rock Bowmen to rent 10 targets for the shoot in exchange for a $20 reduction in entry fee for members of our club. He also proposed renting the 10 targets for $250 from our club.
All members voted not to rent our targets for this event under either of the 2 proposals. All opposed.

Tony brought up a proposal from Jackalopes Archery LLC, an organization from Gilbert, AZ who stage shoots. The company would set up the shoot at our range and charge $5 for 8 minutes of participants shooting each other with furnished padded arrows shot from furnished bows. Participants would wear protective gear. Red Rock Bowmen would have to pay the company 25 cents a mile (292 miles) to travel from Gilbert, AZ and post $150 for any damages to their equipment. Mel stated that it looked fun, but he didn’t think it promoted safe handling of bows and arrows. A vote was initiated to determine whether we should pursue this type of Club Shoot. All members voted not to pursue this type of Shoot.

A proposal was made to assign a reporter for every club shoot. The reporter would be responsible for taking pictures, writing up an article about the shoot and giving these to Dave Burton to post on the web site.
All members approved having some type of picture taking and reporting (with approval of subjects) to be given to Dave Burton to be posted on our website (redrockbowmen.com).

In Feb. the after school kids program will start. Kids will come out to our range from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday and one other day. Besides the school kids we have Boy Scouts, and 4H members shooting in groups on our range. We need to set up 3 more 20 yard targets for the youth.

Tony went to a Southern Utah Shooting Sports Park Special Services District meeting and requested money in the form of a Grant for 3D targets, butts, arm and finger guards, etc. for a total of$4869. It appears that we will receive that amount.

Mel needs to order some new 3D targets and asked opinions about what type of 3D targets to purchase. The membership voted to get African Animals.

Hurricane City approved running an electric line out to our range. The line would terminate near our storage shed. We would have 2 30 amp breakers and the switch would be locked inside our shed. Tony said 4 poles could be set up to light a 100 yard by 100 yard area, and night shoots would be possible.

The SUSSP SSD announced we need to get prepared for a water line for a stainless steel latrine. The latrine would cost $1700 and at this time we would have to pay for pumping because the sewer line would not be available. We now have a porta potty that we pay $55 per month.

The combination for our gate to the range changed Jan 22, 2012. The new combination will be given to members as they pay their 2012 dues.

Marie gave the December 31 financial report as follows:

Marie asked whether we wanted her to continue to put money in the Year End Prizes account.
All members voted yes.

Marie asked if we wanted her to start a latrine fund.
All members voted yes.
Financials were accepted.

The Marketing Board of the SUSSP asked for a Red Rock Bowmen representative for marketing to work with the group. Bryan DeMille was nominated, accepted and approved.

Dave Burton requested approval to conduct an on line survey to determine wants, needs, and suggestions of the members. The results would be seen only by the Board Members.
All members approved the survey.

Ed Eliason congratulated Red Rock Bowmen for a job well done for their help with the 2011 Huntsman senior Games 3D Archery. He said the contribution from Huntsman to our club would be raised from $5 per participant to $10.
Ed announced the SUU Indoor Archery National College Tournament to be held around March 4th and 5th. Ed mentioned new divisions including a non- college division, and a longbow division.

Ed will be the new National Intercollegiate Coach. Ed will run an online coaches training.
Tony opened the meeting up for discussion. Some comments and topics follow:
Elizabeth suggested e-mail be specific about volunteer duty.
Ed recommended non-volunteers pay more dues.
Tony recommended novelty shoots and a best novelty shoot award. Some suggestions were Tick Tack Toe and card games with laminated cards to shoot at.
Robert made a request that we designate a time for members to bring their own targets to the range to shoot with broad head arrows.

Mel stated that we are not insured for broad head arrows. Mel also stated that other restrictions in the past have been alcohol, firearms, and horses. All of these restrictions may still be in place under our new insurance policy.
